Course Overview

Two-day course aimed at actors either already working in the profession or just starting out to brush up on their audition skills for castings within the world of screen. Whether it be for television, film or advert castings. Actors will be directed, screen tested and be given the opportunity to watch back their work to help them become more relaxed and familiar with script analysis and improvisation for a mock television advert, a monologue and scene work giving them a greater understanding of approaching a live audition.

Each actor will be given one to one tuition and also work with other actors in pairs to discover the art of improvisation and the breakdown of a monologue and scene work to help the actor create a greater active truthful inner life and breath energy into characterisation and lift the words of the text off the page. Each actor will also learn during this process the technicalities of camera shots of singles, two shots and master shots as well as hitting their mark.

The outcome over the two days should help both novice to the more seasoned actor to be better prepared, more specific in their own approach and choices, relaxed and free to express themselves within an audition or screen test environment which shall help them to go on and achieve making an impact on the job they are auditioning for, as well as having fun along the way.

Timings for both of the two days are from 10.30am – 16.30pm with a one-hour lunch break. Advisable to arrive from 10.00am to start promptly at 10.30am. Comfortable clothes and footwear are advised.

Mark Normandy

Mark has spent much of his creative life as an actor, writer and director with critical acclaim in the theatre, film and television industry. He has run his own theatre company ‘Hot Toddy’ productions successfully for several years.

Produced a stunt performance fight team called Fighters and Fools and by the early nineties was an associate director with the Dukes Head theatre in Richmond, Surrey.

He has directed over twenty-four theatre productions and tours to date and developed his own corporate video company, Elegantia Productions, with another seven video productions added to a growing list. Worked with actors such as Brian Blessed (Seven Swords. Future Vision Films) and Richard Briars (Academy Corporate Presentation) helped Mark to develop an understanding of the art of the screen actor and their relationship to the camera.

Whilst pursuing his career Mark explored an interest in teaching screen acting and show reel development for student actors along with a series of crash courses for beginners at an established drama school in London. It was through this experience that the idea of creating a school exclusively dedicated to screen acting took root and in 2002 the International School of Screen Acting was created. Mark has a new project under development at StarLite Studios consisting of micro courses and audition surgeries for the professional screen actor.
